What does the PRL Do?

The Pesticide Research Laboratory (PRL) investigates pesticides used in the Caribbean and does chemical analyses for companies, regulatory bodies and individuals. The PRL is one of the best-equipped analytical labs in the Caribbean, with the latest cutting-edge instruments that give us the flexibility to perform many different types of analyses for Environmental Contaminants, Industrial Chemicals, Paint & Petroleum, Pharmaceutical Drugs, Mineral Imbalances and Steroids etc.

The PRL is the UNEP designated laboratory to analyse all persistent organic pollutants and also to monitor Caribbean coastal pollution by analyzing fish samples.

Two Gas Chromatographs with following attachments

One High performance liquid chromatograph with

• single quadrupole mass spectrometric detectors

• auto sampler

One High performance liquid chromatograph with

• diode array and fluorescence detectors

• post derivatization accessory

• multi-sample handling capability with auto injector

One High performance liquid chromatograph with

• triple quadrupole tandem mass spectrometric detectors

• tandem mass spectrometric detector

• auto sampler

ISO 17025 Accreditation

The Accreditation Council of the Jamaica National Agency for Accreditation (JANAAC) on Thursday, October 8, 2015, approved the recommendation from the Accreditation Evaluation Committee (AEC) for the award of an accreditation certificate to the Pesticide Research Laboratory of The University of the West Indies, Mona, Jamaica in the Food Testing Field. The effective date of the award is Tuesday, October 6, 2015, the date the AEC recommendation was made [Certificate of Accreditation] [Accreditation Scope]
